Day 2: Hollywood
to Jensen Beach
The boats started out in 3 to 4 foot seas and 18 - 24
mph winds from the
east as they left Hollywood for Jensen Beach. This reach angle was the
same as the day before, and it is very hard on all the sailors. They will
be in for a pounding. As they worked their way up the coast, the winds
eased a bit, but the waves continued a relentless pounding. With about
thirty five miles to go, the wind shifted a little to the south, and the
spinnakers came out. The course takes a little turn to the west so most
of the boats kept their spinnakers up the rest of the way to the finish.
The teams were now able to have a little easier ride. Team Castrol was
a
little behind Team Tybee with about ten miles to go when Tybee crashed
into a large wave and flipped. Not a minute later in almost the same spot
Team Castrol too was hit by a large wave and they went over. After they
righted, they went to a single trap position and Team Castrol was able
to
pull away from Team Tybee to gain a slim four minute lead. Team Castrol
takes first place for this leg and overall first place.
WE HAVE DRIVEN HARD, 1ST PLACE
THIS LEG!
keep it up!!
